School... as in Work

I've finished 3 days straight of work this week and I've survived so far.

The class on Monday was a 1st grade class and it was a headache, but I had enough work for the entire day. Tuesday was a Kinder class and they were pretty decently behaved, there was one breakdown by non-English speaking student. I had some extra time and taught them a new game (Around the World), and I read a few extra books.

Students just seem to get things done faster when with a substitute. I get through most plans quickly. Today? 2nd grade class, awesome group of kids. Teacher is very organized, left detailed notes, etc. BUT? I got through what she left through lunch before recess! It was that kind of day. So I had to come up with about 2 hours of extra stuff to do. We played Money Bingo (something she left for us), then we played Sparkle (they have to spell words, each student names one letter, if they give the wrong letter they have to sit down and are "out"), and Around the World with addition (I forgot to do subtraction) (I did that one in the Kinder class but with reading their sight words). THEN we played Heads-up, Seven-up THEN we played Four Corners. Finally it was time to go home.

Tomorrow I'll be in a 1st grade class. It will be in the room next to the one I was in today. I introduced myself to the teacher after school today, since the school set me up as her sub - not her. I hope it goes well and that she'll call me back. I am coming back to today's class later this month.

On Friday I go to a 3rd grade class I've been to a few times, and I'll be there M-W as well. I'm printing out some things I can do with them, and also preparing to do a Valentine's craft with them. It can't be anything too complicated (I'm not going to buy any materials, they have to be at the school). BUT this class likes me, and I like them, and I don't have to keep telling them to be quiet (from what I remember), so it should be fine. The teacher is really nice, and while usually there is class switching with her partner teacher next door (some kids come, some go), since ALL the 3rd grade teachers will be out those 3 days we aren't going to be doing it (thank goodness!).

So yes, that is my week in Subbing.
